Life Ties
Since 1976
Rooted in Provence
As L’Occitane marks this milestone, a new chapter unfolds, revealing a renewed identity, reimagined collections, and a continued commitment to nurturing the ties between beauty, people, and nature.
Our story began in the heart of Provence, where nature, tradition and craftsmanship come together. From a simple gesture to a global Maison, each creation reflects our deep connection to the land and its people.
OUR KEY DATES
1976
At 23 years old, Olivier Baussan distilled rosemary for the first time using an old still.
From this founding act, what he called L’Occitane was born.
1978
In 1978, Olivier Baussan moved into a villa nestled in the hills above Manosque, in Volx. Production was still artisanal.
Two years later, the first factory and the first shop opened in the same small village.
1993
In 1993, the Shea Butter Hand Cream was created.
Its metal tube, inspired by paint tubes, became a symbol of beauty born from craftsmanship, care rooted in the connection between women of the Sahel and artisans of Provence.
2004
A sensory collection was launched in 2004 with the Almond Shower Oil, followed in 2006 by the Almond Supple Skin Oil.
Four years earlier, Olivier Baussan had partnered with Jean-Pierre Jaubert, a Provençal producer, to revive almond tree cultivation in Provence.
2026
This heritage forms the foundation of the 50th anniversary story: a House born from a simple gesture and driven by a deep, lasting connection to Provence.
